Smooth Jazz Shuffle!

Greetings!
Another one bites the dust, again! Smooth Jazz 105.3 in Jacksonville FL. is no more. What's left to say? Seems like Internet radio stations and non-traditional marketing options are definitely the wave of the future.

If you're business is jazz, don't get caught in the "Smooth Jazz Shuffle".......send an email to candidjazzads@yahoo.com and find out how we're marketing and promoting national and Indy artist, jazz festivals & events etc. to our 35,000 + all jazz industry jazz consumer database. Also, ask about our non- traditional marketing options. The question still remains, who or what do you think is to blame for the downfall of Smooth Jazz? If you want to sound off on this topic, post it on the blog.

Smooth Jazz Radio in Denver is no more!

Greetings From Denise Jordan Walker!

Smooth Jazz is.....you fill in the blank. Here we go again! Last month, Smooth Jazz station CD 101.9 in NYC left, less than 30 days later, last Friday, DC's Smooth Jazz station WJZW is gone, and now today, less than a week later, we just received word that Denvers Smooth Jazz station announced to all of it's radio personalities and staff this morning, that the station will flip formats and become a sports station. WOW! Are internet radio stations and non-traditional marketing options the new ticket for artists now? hmmmmm?

My good friend & my former WNUA music director The legendary Michael Fischer has been the the program director in Denver for quite a while now. Remember the good ole days at WNUA/ Chicago when the music was awesome & the station supported Indy artists by playing there music?

Well, Michael Fischer was behind that whole push to support new talent!. He did the same thing for Indy artists in Denver all of these years. Mike Fischer has a great heart and a real love for good music. Like me, he's always gotten really excited over new talent! Mikes favorite words..."That's Killer". I'm sure Michael Fischer is going to help artist in some way, in the very near future. Good Luck Mike. You know I luv ya!

What do you think is happening to Smooth jazz radio? Can it be saved? What needs to happen for the future of jazz?
Below is the sign-off letter from Denver:
Dear Smooth Jazz 104.3 Listener:
We are sad to announce that Smooth Jazz will no longer be available on the 104.3FM frequency. Due to declining audience ratings over the past couple years combined with a decline in advertising support from our clients, we had no choice but to make the difficult decision to remove the Smooth Jazz format from the 104.3 frequency.

The staff of Smooth Jazz 104.3 would like to thank you for your support over these past 8 years. As many of you know, Smooth Jazz has been on an FM station in Denver for nearly 20 years as prior to Smooth Jazz 104.3 coming on the air, KHIH better remembered at K-HIGH programmed Smooth Jazz for many years before changing format itself. Once again from all of us at Smooth Jazz 104.3.
Thank you for your years of support!

Smooth Jazz Radio in DC is no more!

Greetings From Denise Jordan Walker, Candid Jazz and Conversation

Smooth Jazz is taking on a new twist these days. What's happened to Smooth Jazz Radio? Last month Smooth Jazz radio station CD 101.9 in NYC left and now 30 days later Washington DC''s Smooth Jazz station WJZW is no more. What caused them to give up on the format this past Friday?

See below letter by WJZW on their last day.

From The Desk Of Jay Lang:
This past Friday at 2pm (2/29) new owners Citadel Communications pulled the plug On Smooth Jazz 105.9 in Washington and released the air staff and other employees from all 3 stations (WMAL, WJZW & WRQX) as a part of corporate downsizing. It is with subtle shock and sadness that I say farewell to my Smooth Jazz audience and friends. I hold no hard feelings about the change. It's been a great ride. But having been in Program Management with Clear Channel over the years I understand business and have had the task of letting staff go myself by corporate mandate (a tasteless job) due to a format change. After the Walt Disney/ABC Radio sale I knew some sort of restructuring was inevitable. Right decision or wrong, it is what it is. The joy I've experienced each night from 7pm to Midnight as Host of Lights Out Washington will forever live in memory. I'll truly miss giving you those Romantic Recipes and Words Of Wisdom each night from my heart to yours. I truly felt something magical my last night on the air. A strangely indescribable joy of having executed the perfect show. Little did I know Thursday Night (2/29) would be my last night on the air at WJZW.

To all who tuned in a 8pm poured their favorite beverage and lit a candle as we relaxed the night away until Midnight, I say Thank You. Now I embark on a new journey as GOD opens a new door this stage of my life & career. To Kenny King, Jeff Boden, Steve Allan, Al Santos, Vanniece Johnson, Charlie Maxx, Tom Grooms and my many co-workers whom I consider family, you all were a great joy to work with. Thank You for the opportunity and freedom to build on my vision of Lights Out Washington. the faithful's were joining me each night by the thousands to relax and forget about the world. Keep listening out for me on the Time Life Music and various other national commercials. I'll continue writing songs, booking concerts, finish my upcoming book, working with my church, further the growth of my production company and being a great Dad. I'll be around.
